Along with the choice of an electric vehicle (EV) someone has to choose the most suitable EV charger. In this section we will try to make a road map for making the best choice on an EV charger.

• The time you need in order to fully charge your EV.

The most important question someone has to answer before choosing an EV charger is how fast wants to charge an EV. The time of charging is depending on the power output of the charger and the power that an EV can absorb in order to get charged. The power that each EV can absorb is depending on the electric car’s inbuilt onboard charger. Therefore for example if the maximum power an EV can absorb is 7kW, then even if you plug it, in a charger of 11kW, the charging power will be charged will be 7kW.

• The type of plug the EV charger should have

In Europe there are 3 different standard plug types which are Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3, in whatever has to do with AC charging. The most common though of those two is the Type 2 connector. That means that if you have an EV with a type 2 plug, you can only charge in an EV charger with a type 2 connector.
In whatever has to do with DC charging, the plug types are CCS, CHAdeMO and the Tesla Supercharger.

• What kind of functions do you need from an EV charger

Our EV chargers come in a variety of functions in order to cover every customer’s requirement. That makes them ideal for private or public use.
Communication capabilities: In terms of communication an EV charger can have an Ethernet port or 3G/4G/GPRS modem in order to be connected to a back-office system, giving you capabilities of billing, remote error diagnostic, user management, etc.

Load management: Smart EV chargers can give you the ability of charging several cars simultaneously, by distributing the output power accordingly in such a way that will not create overload to the electrical connection.

Access restriction: In those cases that the use of an EV charger should be limited to a few or just a single person, can be possible by using a key-locked door or an RFID card.

• What kind of accessories you may need
The EV chargers can be upgraded by the use of some accessories.
Shutter: a socket with shutter has some benefits. The most import is protection against contact of electrical parts and splash water protection

Cable holders: Some EV chargers come without a cable holder and can be offered as an accessory, giving you the opportunity to hang the charging cable neatly on the cable holder instead of living it lying on the ground.

Installation only by qualified technicians
For reasons of correct installation and personal safety, installation and maintenance work should only be carried out by a qualified electrician who is aware of the standards and installation guidelines, and who assumes full responsibility for the installation.
